Using Google Analytics to Get Search Engine Traffic

K, for the last week school has left me totally drained, which is kind of sad because it hasn’t been that bad lately, its been suspiciously ok, maybe it is true that 4th year is the easiest, i dont know.  Anyways this post will be short and to the point as a result, I guess that just means you’re getting the most bang for your reading buck.

I recently wrote about google analytics and quickly summerized some of the neat statistics that it gives you, this is about how to use one inparticular to get more traffic.  If you are like me you will be surprsed to find that you are getting any search engine traffic at all.  Luckily google analytics tells you what those people were searching for.  Chances are if one person is searching for it there are alot of people who are, maybe thousands.  So use those key words.  If you have a blog about bikes and someone came to your blog while googling ‘how do i know if i need a bigger bike’  Maybe you should write an article about that, or at least mention it in passing.  Some how try to work those key words into a post title / the first sentance of a post/ somewhere.  Ideally all 3.  Remember that people generally don’t just search for ‘bikes’, they generlly have something more specific in mind, ‘fast bikes’, ‘cheap bikes’, ‘where to get a good deal on bikes’.  Be descriptive in your titles, ‘About bikes part 3′ won’t cut it.

  • Hi Roy, Great post and you gave everyone some really good info. here especially about the Google analytics! I’ve used it but you made me see something else to look for so for that I give you a thumbs up. Keywords are so important for everything in this blogging and internet world, when I first started I was alittle lost with some aspects of looking or using the keywords, but over time one learns alittle more from this one person or that blog so on and so on.I hope you get your rest or whatever for school I can’t imagine how you do school and blog, so of course you’re bound to get drained, although maybe blogging can take your mind off of school at times. Thanks for the info.

  • i really enjoy reading your post and understand Google stuff more better.

    Thank You

  • Great Post, would you sugest to write an article and submit it to a directories with the right alt linked to the home page, or appropriate landing page? Or, the right strategy will be to add it as a page to the site which is already indexed by google and some people visited it via this key word?
    Thanks
