Installing Wordpress
If you’re going to have a wordpress blog the first thing you need to do is install wordpress. Now if you want the benefits of a wordpress blog without having to buy/host a domain you can do that too, the only downside is that your blog will have a url like wordpress.com/whatever, or something similar to that. If that’s the case then just go to wordpress.com, fill out the simple forms and boom you’re done, so stop reading now.
If you want a wordpress blog on a hosted site its a little more complicated, although they boast that it only takes 5 minutes to install. This is true, if A) you know what you’re doing, or B) your host has a easy 1 click wordpress install. I was lucky enough to fall under the second category. My host is Lunarpages, basically I had to do is open up Fanstastico in my control panel, fill in a couple of fields and i was all set to go.
If you’re not lucky enough to have a host with such an option you’ll have to do the following. Download the wordpress files from wordpress.org
Upload them to your host, you will want to use a FTP program like filezilla because there are too many files to do it manually.
You’ll then need to create a database.
You also need to change the values in the file wp-config-sample and then rename it to wp-config.
I know that if you’re not totally savy in this kind of thing you’re probably saying whoa hold on, how the hell do i actually do step x? I didnt include all the nitty gritty details because i’m far from an expert. Theres lots of other sites that will be able to step you through these technical details so i suggest that you google ‘installing wordpress’ or something like that if you are lost. Contacting wordpress or your host is also an option for getting help.

Thanks for your post. I already have a domain name and hosting that I plan to use for a hosted WP blog, but I discovered it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be and have put it on the backburner. I will google that term when I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work on it. Think I should bring my tissue box with me.
